Six Ways to Stay Motivated With your Workout Plan
“Plan” is a loose term. If you know me, you know I like to live in a more “grey” zone than “black and white.” I don’t do diets. I don’t weigh myself. I don’t count calories. I don’t like to doing the exact same every day. I do, however, believe in being healthy, active and energized. Sticking to a regular schedule of workouts is always difficult, yet worth the rewards. I find that there are a few ways I always get myself to the studio, the gym, and the streets to stay fit…
Switch It Up
Learning something new is always a little more exciting than doing what you already know. I always try to throw in new workouts. This helps me stay motivated for a few reasons. Firstly, it’s distracting. I’m usually so focused on the workout and not messing up that I forget I’m actually working out. Secondly, I can’t dread what I don’t know. Sometimes when we do the same things over and over, we get unmotivated. I like having a new challenge.
Upgrade your Workout Gear
I’m not just talking about a new pair of cute leggings. recently, I’ve been wearing these Kinis Nomad Lite “shoes.” Actually they’re not really shoes, they’re “footwear.” They’re built for more optimal movement. They have been comfortable to wear and enhance my workouts. Adding something new to my toolkit has kept me motivated to get out the door. Use code SWEETSAUCE for 20% off until November 28, 2019.
Schedule it in
I treat my workouts like my work meetings or my beauty appointments. They’re on the calendar and that time should be respected. Sure, I can move them if something important comes up. Otherwise, I work my day around the workouts, their location, and needed prep time. Whether it’s a class or a 30-minute walk, if I put it on my calendar, I am more likely to make it happen.
Have a Backup Plan
That all being said, things do get in the way. Meetings are moved. You get stuck in traffic. Before you know it, you’re too late for the class or had to work through your scheduled workout time. When you do, know you have a back up plan. For me, it’s usually a walk at another time during the day. Lately, I’ve really enjoyed taking those walks with my friend’s dog, Rooney. It’s been incredibly rewarding physically and mentally.
Have a Buddy System
I have at least two friends who I can always hit up in the beginning of the week. I tell them what workouts I’m thinking of going to and invite them to join. Knowing they’re expecting me is definitely encouraging. It’s easier to convince myself I don’t need to go if I don’t have anyone holding me accountable. Bonus: it’s a great excuse to catch up and have a little quality time with friends in your busy schedule.
Forgive Yourself
None of this is worth it if you give yourself a hard time. Working out should be good for your mental health and overall wellbeing. You will miss some workouts. You’ll mess up in class. You’ll ruin a workout with a shitty meal. Forgive yourself. Compliment yourself for the workouts you’ve accomplished and the workouts to come in the future. You’ll crush it tomorrow or the next day. You’re a goddess either way.
