Five Style Essentials to Have in Your Closet
Here we are at the beginning of a new year. Ah. Don’t you love that smell? The smell of recreation? It’s a great time to clean out your closet and evaluate your personal style. You have new gifts you’ve given yourself and those your loved ones have expertly picked out for you, hopefully. You have fresh, new goals and you want to make life easier, yet stronger. Refining your closet is a crucial component to a successful year, promise me. As you cut back and add in, you’ll realize you’re doing much more than evaluating how you want to look this year. You are evaluating how you want to BE. I personally go through this process almost monthly, though I have helped people walk through the process sometimes for the first moment in their lives during my personal styling sessions. So, what is a style essential?
A style essential is an item that you may have in a variety of colors and washes. It’s something that you KNOW works well with you and your body style. A style essential is a piece of clothing you can wear in different scenarios and environments and still feel like yourself and feel put together.
This outfit is full of my personal style essentials. I picked out five I think everyone woman should have in their closet. I encourage you to have your own take.
A Polished Coat
I am on a coat kick right now. I throw them on over dresses for going out. I wear them over jeans and sneakers to tighten up an otherwise casual look. I make sure they are comfortable, flattering, and have a bit of character. I also chose neutral colors that go with anything. Here are a few I love:
High Rise Denim
Not all high rise denim jeans are style essentials. I’m talking about the ones that make you feel slim, posited and comfortable no matter the day. I’m a HUGE fan on Levi’s for this purpose. I feel better about investing in denim these days and you should, too. Casual chic is the new business casual. Laid-back polished style is more and more acceptable in and out of the office. Accessories to Polish Any Look
If you know me, then you know my jewelry is pretty straight forward. I have some statement pieces, especially from different trips I’ve taken. It’s mostly because it makes getting dressed easier. I think less about my jewelry when it’s simple and high-impact. I keep essential jewelry pieces around that go with anything and everything. I prefer gold and white tones. You may like silver or opals. Know your style. Know your favorite tones and invest in them. Here are some favorites on my dresser. Everyday Bodysuits
I just bought two more bodysuits from Amazon in the middle of writing this post. I have been wearing the few that I have at least once a week since winter hit and I had to start wearing pants again. I decided I needed more. Think of these style essentials as the upgraded t-shirt. They don’t have to be anything special. I have simple black, white, grey and red bodysuits. They’re all in comfortable cotton fabrics. They smoothly tuck into any skirt, pants or shorts. I don’t have to readjust my hemline. I feel a little more grown up and sexy whenever I wear one. At the end of the day, that feeling is all I ever want. Shop some of my essential bodysuits:
Booties for Every Occasion
My bootie collection is wild in terms of size for some people. In terms of character, however, you’ll discover a very simple collection of colors and shapes. Booties are unquestionably a style essential for me. They fall somewhere in between heels and flats on the dressed-up spectrum. They project a casual, yet elegant vibe. They polish off a pair of distressed denim. They add some edge to any feminine look I slip on. I am comfortable and fashion-forward at the same time. Look for booties that will go with a variety of hemlines and pieces in your closet. Here are a few rockstars in my closet:
