How Neutral Items Can Elevate your Closet
I wouldn’t exactly call myself a wallflower when it comes to style. I’ve got some pretty wild pieces in my closet. I do invest wisely, though, and that means I often purchase neutral items. Having these do-it-all pieces that can go with everything is essential to creating a wardrobe that is easy to manage.
Neutral pieces help your super fun items shine bright. For example, here, I’m wearing a new hair style. I didn’t rock it with my funky floral romper, yet with this simple look grounded by neutral items in my closet. This pink wall, could also represent any wild coat or pair of shoes you have. You don’t have to think about how to wear the fun stuff if you have items that match with everything at close reach.
I’m wearing some pretty old items from my closet here, so I’ve linked to a few new ones I think you would like. Here are my top five categories of neutral fashion items to add to your closet:
Blouses
This is a hard one. There are so many fun shirts out there. Definitely have your fun ones, but please make room on your rack for blouses that are neutral. Kind of crushing on this Lush top. The shape is super flattering.
Vests/Outerwear
I have more than one neutral vest. These are so crucial in places like Virginia where layering is a science. The weather changes so much! Don’t forget to invest in neutral coats, too! I might be buying this long knit vest from Echo.
Shoes
My shoes are mostly tan, brown, grey, or black. I don’t like to fuss a lot with wild shoes. I think about my shoes last when putting together an outfi. So, having shoes in a variety of styles in colors that go with everything makes the final moments much easier. Neutral shoes scan till wow people. I need to add a pair of lower heeled booties. I love these Lucky brand booties that come in 10 different neutral colors.
Sunglasses
It’s super tempting to buy funky sunglasses. I have a few pairs, but the simple ones always get the most wear. They bring out my natural beauty more and allow me to wear something a little funkier. If you want to splurge, I think these SALT glasses would go well with any outfit for the next century.
Pants
I’m wearing jeans here, which obviously sort of count as a staple. You can also wear neutrals on the bottom when you have a loud top, or go all neutral. I’ve been looking at suede leggings lately. These cement colored Lysse Jones Faux Suede leggings are divine.
