Four Ways to Wear Your Plaid Blazer

I’d been hunting for a plaid blazer ever since the trend hit Instagram. I’m not usually one to get hooked on a trend right away, but I love the practicality of a blazer as a closet staple. In today’s more casual dress code climate, the blazer plays a big role. From denim, to suit wear, to club looks, I’ve found it to be the perfect feminine outfit topper over the years. I’ve always had solid colored blazers to get the job done.

Enter the plaid blazer. A few of my favorite bloggers started dawning them this summer. Brittany Xavier of Thrifts and Threads rocked hers here. Danielle Bernstein of We Wore What recently styled hers with a graphic tee here on Instagram, but she’s worn the trend several different ways. I loved the one Becca found at LOFT during our collaboration with the brand. I was fortunate to find one during one of my first trips to the new Buffalo Exchange in Carytown, a well known consignment franchise that just landed town. I’m wearing that find one here.

I’ve started to wear this flattering and versatile plaid blazer several ways in my own daily interpretation. I decided to document and share a few of the styles for you. Below is the breakdown, but know I’ll wear this 10 more ways before summer next year. I’ll take bets and keep count if you want.

Over a Dress. Here, I paired with a white dress I found in Philly during my last visit. I’m obsessed with these white booties, which you’ll see several times in this post. I also wore the blazer over a black dress for an event recently. I share it on Instagram here. The key is to wear a solid dress above the knees to make your frame slim and keep the attention on the blazer.
With Shorts and a Crop Top. This one is for having fun, if that wasn’t obvious. I’m wearing a crop top from Mod & Soul and On Twelfth shorts from Sweetest Stitch. Rock this out for drinks and then some.
Top off White Pants. White is not gone. That’s a style commandment we always break here at Sweet Sauce. White is always in season. I’m wearing the plaid blazer here with my favorite white flares from Vibrant Miu. These pants have a polished vibe, even though they are denim.
Polish off a Body Suit and Colored Denim. I fell in love with these Just Black skinny jeans this spring. I can’t find the red pair I’m wearing here, but I just linked to the forest color. This outfit would look good with any colored denim for a polished, but sexy ensemble. Any good pair of high waisted denim will do to create a long silhouette. Make sure you have a bit of ankle showing.
