Skinny Jeans Are Out? Maybe. Here are Six New Pants to Wear Instead
I was just as shocked as my other 30-plus-year-old friends to hear that skinny jeans were making their way out of style. I haven’t given up hope on the denim style, though. You can see I still love my skinny jeans in this Instagram Reel. I am not here to recommend you get rid of your skinny jeans. They are still useful and wearable, especially for the fall and winter seasons. They look great with oversized sweaters and easily tuck into boots.
I do want to help my Gen Z followers and women of all ages to discover new outfit ideas featuring a perhaps untapped variety of pant styles. There are more styles where these comes from, but here’s a starter pack to help you shop for something new to spice up your wardrobe. I worked to share styling tips and affordable links. I love shopping for jeans at ASOS, Abercrombie, NastyGal, and Everlane. You can also easily discover some of these new styles in second-hand shops.

Wide-Leg Jeans
These pants are from my middle school days, but they have a few new features this decade. The jeans are high waisted and they aren’t as wide as my JNCO jeans I wore in grade school. They can actually feel polished, too. You don’t have to wear them with a graphic tee or flannel. To make sure wide-leg jeans don’t make you look larger, pair them with a fitted top. I’d even suggest showing a bit more extra skin and explore crop tops with these pants. You can really slim out your figure if you play the proportions right.
Try wide-leg jeans to replace your skinny jeans:
Split Front Pants
I’ve been trying to find a pair of these for a while! They are mostly fitted like your skinny jeans until you get to the bottom. Some of these pants have a split on the side and some split in the front. I love the front split to elongate petite and curvy figures like mine. You can style these pants with a blazer and heels for work or wear a casual shirt and sneakers for a weekend look.

Wide Leg Trousers
Wide-leg trousers are universally comfortable and effortless to style. I wear mine to cocktails, to the office, and to concerts just as easily. A quick switch of the top can transform them from day to night. As with the wide-leg jeans, wear these with a fitted top to slim your frame. Slip-on a heel to make sure your legs look extra long and you look leaner. These can have a serious reputation, so play around with color and patterns!
Swap your skinny jeans for wide-leg trousers:
Cropped Denim
We’re not talking cropped skinny jeans, we’re talking either a wide-leg cropped pant or a kick-flare pant. The kick flare generally fits tighter around the waist and hips than its wide-leg counterpart. We want to make sure we can see your ankle in these. That will help ensure your figure stays sleek. I’d even recommend wearing sleek shoes. Pair these with some a bit more fitted up top, as well. Rock a long cardigan or blazer to lengthen your figure, too!
Try cropped or kick-flare denim instead of your skinny jeans:
Straight-Leg Jeans
These are the closest thing you’ll find to skinny jeans in today’s trending fashion. As the name explains, the width of the leg of these jeans is a straight line from the hips and all the way down to the ankles. They can hug you but really nice. Treat them almost like your skinny jeans, but don’t tuck them into your boots. You’ll find they make a bunching effect.
Shop new straight-leg jeans:
Mom Jeans
These are going to have a similar effect as straight-leg jeans, but they are often cropped and leave a little more wiggle room all around. Sometimes, you can buy straight-leg jeans to fit like mom jeans just by sizing up! I love pairing these with cropped cardigans and other loose tops. I feel cutesy, yet polished.
