NYFW Day 2 Outfit: Rocking a Maxi During the Winter
This was a favorite dress of mine last summer. I even took it with me across the country to Seattle. I styled it for a hot summer day here. A lot of women wouldn’t consider wearing a maxi during the winter. This one that I found at Mod & Soul kept taunting me from my closet as the months turned colder.
When I packed up for New York Fashion Week, I pulled this out and realized all the opportunities I had to use it to keep me warm. My secret weapon to wearing this maxi during the winter? Leggings! Even during a post-blizzard day in NYC, I was cozy in the big city wearing this maxi.
I wore this look to eat lunch at The Standard and frolic around Chelsea. To keep things extra cozy, I picked up some soft gloves at a small New York shop and pulled out my favorite winter accessory: my black beanie I found at Rumors Boutique for $8. And this wool moto jacket? Another thrift find from Ashby for about $15, I believe. The jacket has a detachable sheepskin collar. I took that off for the day and put my black faux fur stole over it instead. I was at fashion week, after all. Voila! Totally transformed dress and jacket.
The dress dragged a bit in the dirty snow. But my killer wedge booties still kept me pretty dry. Any dirt came out in the wash when I returned home. If you looked really closely, you can see a pair of striped socks I’m rocking under all this striped glory. I was NOT going to be cold. Even if that meant rocking stripes on stripes on the low key.
Wearing a maxi during the winter takes a bit of creativity and open mindedness. I also have a couple cropped sweaters I could throw on over this to treat the dress like a skirt. Sneakers could also be paired with the dress to give it more of a sporty and casual vibe.
