23 Ways to Wear White Pants… and Counting
I am from the South. It’s not that I was bottle-fed on sweet tea, but I do say a good amount of “y’all,” love a hand-written thank you note, and I was taught that you don’t wear white jeans after Labor Day. You just don’t. And for many, many years, I abided by this rule like a good Virginian.
Now, at 30, I realize I make my own rules. I also give you permission to make your own, too. I have too many pairs of white pants that make my outfit, my butt, and my whole day pop. Also, some of you know I work as a personal and corporate stylist. White pants are always on my recommendations list for clients as they revamp their closets and prepare for product shoots.
Since I started Sweet Sauce, I’ve declared war on this traditional Southern rule. To honor my mission, I’ve worked with my incredible intern Moozhan to comb through my files and collect all of my white pants outfits over the years. We found 23 outfit with white pants and we will undoubtedly continue to add. We also put together a few tips to help you take on the trend.
Neutrals are King
Neutrals are your friend. White pants can be tricky to style but a good neutral helps in two ways. First, it can tone down the harshness of a white pant. Second, it can make even the most formal silhouette a little more casual.
Mix Textures
Textures give life to white pants. They add a little something to a basic white pant without doing too much with overly bold colors or patterns. A denim jacket with denim jeans is boring, but a leather jacket with denim jeans isn’t. You get the idea.
Go High Waist
High waisted everything. High waisted pants hug your curves better, feel more comfortable, and allow you so many more options when it comes to pairing tops. Especially when it comes to flare jeans, low waisted is so early 2000s.
Any Season is Game
No white before Memorial Day or after Labor Day? We don’t play by those rules. White pants look good layered with fur coats and scarves or paired with simple crop tops and sunglasses. White is year round.
