Know someone with a big ass house you can use for free. No cost makes it an easy decision for everyone to attend. In this case, it was my grandma’s house on a small ski resort in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. I sent everyone the address via email in advance. No one had to ask me for the address on the big arrival day/night. People were arriving all that day until 11!
Tell everyone to bring all the alcohol, all the mixers, and all the snacks. No moochers allowed. They must be giving creatures who can live without taking score in a communal setting. This was also covered in a group email.
Invite creative people who bring games.
Invite brothers, especially funny, cute, and competitive ones.
Wear a bitchin outfit. Be a queen/king for the night. Try something bold and new. I tried dark red lipstick. This is the darkest I have ever gone.
Make your friends do the same.
Embrace your new year’s resolution. One of my resolutions was to buy more second hand and consignment in 2015. Everything above the belly button (I didn’t have to wear a bra) was from a consignment or second-hand store. Coat is from Bygones (gift this past Christmas), shirt is from Duo (More than 5 years ago), and the skirt is from a vintage Etsy shop (for $8!). Shoes were bought a while ago during a BOGO sale at Rackroom. They’ve gotten their wear’s worth (and blisters).
Get some alumni love action going. We also invited friends we recently made, our younger brothers, and high school friends.
Invite hot couples.
Secure a substantial blue tooth speaker system. Girls gotta dance.
Bring fun things for people to wear and embrace their alter egos with.
Invite friends who are like silent ghosts in the morning . They will be up before everyone cleaning and fixing breakfast and coffee for the crowds. They know they’ll get paid back in a home cooked meal later for lunch or dinner. They also know there are lots of spots for naps in the house. Some people are just programmed to get up early!
Invite a hot girl who speaks french.
Have activities nearby for New Year’s Day bonding.
Have an open mind. Do weird things. Indulge.
Have a good partner in crime. I’d say mine is the best.
Know that you can’t have everyone there. There are so many people who weren’t there who are so dear to my heart. They know who they are! You rock my world and will be a part of the best 2015 a girl could have.
I’ve got mad love for all my people, near, far, family, friends, coworkers, bartenders, and baristas. Thank you for making my days brighter, more hilarious, more delicious, and more indulgent. Cheers to 2015!
I think it would be fun to do.Yeah, I was SO tired when I got home . . . part way into the falafel prescos, I wondered why I had decided to make dinner . . . crazy for sure .
