Travel Style: My Big Fat Greek outfit Recap
I’m baaaack. I’ve returned to the mainland after a week abroad with my family and friends. I spent two days in Athens and five in Mykonos, Greece. We walked a lot–most of which was up a hill. It was hot, but not humid luckily. We stayed out until the sun came up and ate breakfast after noon. There were a mixture of high dollar tourists and casual adventurers. The ocean was turquoise, cool and inviting. The sunsets were breathtaking. Here are few style notes I took away:
Don’t bother with heels. I packed way too many shoes. I wound up wearing these gold Qupid sandals or black Qupid flats for almost everything. Find yourself a versatile pair of shoes that can go from day to night.
You don’t get to “run home” for a “quick change.” Mykonos, especially, is difficult. Cabs are not cheap, the walk home is often long, or you’re riding an ATV or scooter to get there. Be good with what you’re wearing for several hours. Make room in your day bag for accessories like a jacket or shoes if you want to transform looks while you’re out.
Bring a nice hat. The Mediterranean sun is real. Take cover with a hat–not a flimsy floppy one. Bring one that can withstand wind and can truly protect your face and shoulders. I found one like this at Mod & Soul and it rarely left my side during the day. I avoided getting too much sun on my face and stayed cool no matter where we were trekking or chilling.
Know your staples. You’ll notice a few repeats like this jean jacket. It helped change outfits from day to night and was super helpful during all the airport time. I also wore the same jewelry set nearly every day. I wore gold hoop earrings and a layered necklace set similar to this by designer Mod + Jo. It made getting dressed easier because I had a base I could always count on. It went with everything, day and night.
Now, on to the outfits!
Many of these pieces are versatile and ready for adventure at home or abroad. I am also looking forward to wearing them during the fall with the right sweaters and layers. You can easily shop each one below.
For a Day touring Athens
I walked nearly five miles and absorbed centuries of history and views in this light, breezy ensemble. I somehow didn’t stain it either!
A Night Out in Athens
Dinner overlooking the Acropolis? Dancing at a club on the beach? This outfit did the trick.
A Walk to the Top
We rode a sketchy little train to the top of Mount Lycabettus to see the sunset and watch Athens light up. We went out to a late night dinner with wine, meat, and more meat.
Our First night Out in Mykonos
I wore a bathing suit top as a shirt. You mad?
A Day at the Beach
I wore a bathing suit top as a shirt for this day too. This time I was actually headed to the beach. See the full bathing suit below.
A Day of Shopping in Mykonos
Spent the day with my little brother just roaming the gorgeous streets of Mykonos. A red jumpsuit was perfect for wanting to look fresh, but also be totally comfy. I linked to several below.
A Night of Bar Hopping in Mykonos
I got a lot of compliments about this “dress.” Everyone was surprised to see it was a camisole and pants. I’ve worn the crap out of these pants as you can see here and here. They’re totally versatile.
Beach Club Hopping
I wore this outfit riding on the back of a four wheeler on winding roads to find one of the sickest clubs I’ve ever seen: Fetia. More on that in the travel guide, which is up next. I turn a slip into a shirt here. You’ll want a metallic skirt in your wardrobe. I can’t believe how much I’ve been wearing this since I scored it for my trip to Florida earlier this year. I found a few similar ones.
A Day Out With the Girls
My cousins and auntie spent some time after brunch wandering around Mykonos together. I wore this cute little dress to New Orleans. Such a great, light summer dress.
A Final Blowout Dinner
I found this vintage Bebe dress years ago for a collaboration with a boutique in my hometown. It’s such a classic date-night style dress without being too “sexy.” Since I found it on consignment, I found a few other Bebe dresses on consignment for you to shop below. I am a BIG FAN of ThredUp. It’s the best way to thrift online.
Boating in the Mediterranean
We hopped on board a boat for the day to see some islands, float in the middle of nothing, and drink a lot of wine. I wore this suit I discovered on Shop Starlow, a new online boutique I’ve been stalking. I ain’t no model, but this was really fun for a more curvy girl to wear. It’s not available anymore, but I found a look-alike here. The floral print is a little different but the style is just right.
Until next time, Europe!
Let me know if you have any questions about any of the times I’m wearing here. I know I put a lot in here. Shoot me an email: sweetsauceblog@gmail.com

Yasss I have in white too!!
You rocked the Greek style! Love all your outfits, especially the little red jumpsuit. Don’t you want to go back???? I am sooooo ready to return now that I’ve seen your pics. So glad you had a fabulous time. There is something just magical about Greece … and the color of that water??? Nothing like it!
I would love to go back. There is so much more world to see, though! Looking forward to trips elsewhere this year like Thailand. 🙂
