Potbelly Sandwich Shop Comes to RVA
“If I eat a huge meal and I can get the girl to rub my belly, I think that’s about as romantic as I can think of.” – Ryan Gosling
Living in downtown Richmond has been a lot of fun. From easy access to work, to walks along the James River, to late nights at Kabana–my partner and I have really had a blast. It’s been difficult to get back to eating healthy and cost-effective meals, though. It is so easy to walk to Havana 59 or Belle & James, but not all places are kid-friendly and not all of them are affordable. We’ve spent many family dinners out with tabs that slipped over $50 and we left with less than warm and fuzzy feelings about our calorie intake.
We are working hard to cook more at home and thanks to Terra’s Kitchen and Relay Foods, we’re getting better. With a busy schedule and the need to take care of a hungry man and an even hungrier 8-year-old boy, an impromptu hangry dinner or lunch is sometimes necessary.
Enter Potbelly! I have to admit my boys scoped this one out long before me. The new Sandwich Shop just opened in Downtown Richmond a couple months ago. I’ve heard a gentle nudge to stop by more than once. So, when the company asked me to bring my family for a night try it all, I was in.
We picked up the little one from school and surprised him. We were HUNGRY!
We each stepped up and started with a sandwich. Isaac and I both ordered ours on a healthier flatbread. He tried the Mediterranean and I got the Italian.
The little guy ordered a Turkey sandwich concoction. We went back for soup, which was basic, in a really delicious basic kind of way. There is nothing creative going on on the menu, but sometime that’s all you need.
Then, the cookies. Not only HUGE, but soft and freshly baked.
You know me and my local coffee. I love that Potbelly has partnered with local roaster Black Hand Coffee.
The milkshakes came out of nowhere. And we couldn’t resist. Also, who puts cookies on top of a milkshake? POTBELLY. That’s who.
I picked out a smoothie with real fruit. It was equally amazing.
The Oreo milkshake was everything a sweet tooth could beckon for.
This family dinner was a success! We then returned home and I very romantically patted the full bellies of my boys, as only Ryan Gosling would want. I can’t wait to return for another, fun, simple, and wholesome family meal when we just can’t bear to do anything else.
