Faux Real: 20 Faux Fur Coats and Jackets to Shop Now
I’d be lying if I said I didn’t have collection of real fur coats. Many have been handed down by my family members. Others have been gifts. They are dwarfed by my faux fur coat collection, however. The fuzzy jackets have a few names these days: teddy bear coats, synthetic fur, finks, imitation fur coats. Sometimes the coats and jackets are built to mimic the the real thing. Other times, they are entirely new interpretations of the traditional cold weather coat.
I recently stumbled on this Smithsonian Article about the rise of faux fur coats and jackets. It’s compelling to think how quickly one type of garment has transformed over a handful of decades. Triggered by political protests, the fashion industry transformed. Real fur coats were once status symbols, often a gift to a woman from a man. Today, we have a never-ending democratic and affordable faux fur coat market that every one can access. I’m glad to have more affordable winter coat options.
I’m drawn to the traditional overrides fur silhouettes as well as faux-fur lined leather, denim, and pea coat jackets. I added some of my personal coats to the shopping collection below and added more I covet. I chose shapes and textures that I feel are super wearable. I also threw in a few faux fur jackets that will make a statement like the hot pink number.
