My budding fashion moguls at River City Fashion Uprising scoped out the Virginia Commonwealth University campus to chronicle what everyone is dawning during their first semester of the 2016 school year. Let’s see what street style they’ve got to show us:

In such an eclectic, urban environment, the styles we see around VCU are every bit as diverse as the people wearing them. With the middle of autumn upon us, RCFU decided to hit the streets of the Monroe Park Campus to see what sort of range of fall fashion we could find amongst our students.
For starters: layers, layers, LAYERS. Don’t want to put away those summer skirts and blouses yet? You don’t have to! You can still get use out of summer favs and switch up the way you rock them by layering with tights, knee socks, boots, scarves, and hats. We see so many layered outfits around campus as they’re perfect for the tricky changes in fall weather. It not only gives your clothes a longer lifespan but the right layers can make an otherwise casual look much more polished and put together.
High wasted pants are here to stay, and we really love the more comfortable and flattering boyfriend-jean version of the trend we’ve seen around campus. But make sure to pair with a tighter fitting top to flatter your shape, as this look can easily go from hip to homely with too many baggy pieces. We’ve also been seeing a ton of cute bralettes, which can be the perfect feminine touch of lace or color when poking out of a deep V-neck shirt sweater.
Overall, we’ve noticed that comfort is key this season. From baggy t-shirts paired with statement necklaces and adorable beanies that conveniently cover bed-head, to dressing up your sneakers and active wear for more edgy ensembles. It’s clear that VCU knows how to do fall fashion in a way that feels good and looks badass.
