Cotton Dresses to Travel in the Summer Heat
Nothing makes me want to wander more than this summer heat. It’s the perfect time to pack up and see somewhere new. What to wear? Light, breezy cotton dresses. They’re classic, breathable, washable, easy to pack, versatile, and if you pick the right one, you can leave the undergarments in your suitcase. Read this article about why you should go commando more often, especially during the summer. This article isn’t really about undies, though. It’s about where I want to go in my new cotton dresses. Here are three Virginia cities I plan to visit before the summer heat turns into a fall breeze…
Charlottesville
I’ve got some unfinished shopping business in this area of the state. Thanks to Rhovi, I’ve been introduced to some new boutiques like Duo, Verdigris and Honey Rider. I plan to hit them up after a day with Central Virginia Wine Tours. I’ve spent sometime at Charlottesville wineries, but I’m eager to see what’s new and get lost in the rolling hills. Where to stay and eat? I’d love new recommendations. I’ll be packing a light suitcase with cotton dresses for whatever happens!
Fredericksburg
I was recently invited to visit the A. Smith Bowman Distillery in Fredericksburg. The invite came at the same time my man booked a show at local music venue Legume Kitchen & Bar. Both got me thinking about this city. I used to go shopping there when I was in middle school and high school in Louisa County. It was the closest mall to me and best friend, Alex. The historic downtown area has grown in character and added opportunities to shop and dine. After a day of antique shopping, I’m thinking a stay at the Lavender Heights Bed & Breakfast would be soothing and restful.
Washington, DC
After I graduated college, I spent many weekends in this metropolis with my college girl friends who migrated there. Years have gone by and I’ve mostly only been able to make it to the outskirts where my family lives. I recently took my step son on a fun trip to see the International Spy Museum and visit a few of the Smithsonians. I’m now craving something little sexier, though. I went to a blogger networking event at Embassy Row Hotel and they’ve offered up a room for me to stay. The rooftop pool is everything! Since, I’ve kept a running list of places to shop like Current Boutique. I’d also love to revisit the Eastern Market, waste an afternoon at one of many art museums, and take some killer photos at Meridian Hill Park. At least a few cotton dresses will be in my suitcase like the ones I’ve shared here…
Where do you want to go before summer ends?
Any recommendations in the cities above? I’d love to know!!
You kill that coral dress! Have fun on your journeys! I’m so sad the summer has flown so quickly. 🙁
Thank you, Camille! That dress has been worn out! I wear it at least once a week and it’s been perfect for this summer southern heat!
