Pantone Play: The Cherry Red Dress

Every season, the Pantone Color Institute rolls out its PANTONE Fashion Color Trend Report. In this report, Pantone shares its predictions for the most influential colors for the coming season. This is based on the designs and creations that walk the runway from New York Fashion Week and beyond. I always love taking a read, learning the names of specific colors–who can resist names like Little Boy Blue and Meadow Lark–and imagining new ways to wear each one. Among the many lively and bright colors on this year’s 12-color list is Cherry Tomato. Pantone writes:

“Impulsive Cherry Tomato is a tempestuous orangey red that exudes heat and energy. Demanding attention, this courageous, never to be ignored, shade is viscerally alive.”

If that doesn’t spark your imagination, then maybe this cherry red dress will. I wore this sweet and saucy number to happy hour at Metzger in Richmond. I had a perfect glass of Vino Verde and shared a charcuterie plate with my friend. The sunlight was perfect, the food was refreshingly unique, and the atmosphere was cool, yet classic. I borrowed this fun pair of sunglasses to top off the look. The cherry red dress popped and I wasn’t mad about it all. I’m officially into this Pantone color for 2018.
