Welcome to my Apartment: Where to Shop for Furniture in Richmond + Online
As many of you know, I recently renewed my lease to my apartment in the Richmond Arts District. I’ve updated the decor and furniture since I’ll be here for a little longer. I’ll be entering my third year in this Richmond apartment. I lived here for the first year and a half with my former roommate (still my girl!) and now with my sweet boyfriend. I was in my last dwelling for more than three years. I hosted many parties. I cried laughing and rolling around on the floor. I wrote some of my greatest work there. My current apartment is turning out to be just as magical. The apartment and all the furniture inside create much more than a physical space in which I live. I also work from home, play hostess, and want others to feel inspired and comfortable. To make it work for me 24/7, I I’ve filled it with a blend of new and secondhand furniture and decor.
My home decor style is a special cocktail of fun southern girl, bohemian princess, and classic elegance. I have some key pieces I’ve carried over the years like the crushed velvet chaise lounge, a side table found in an alley, and my favorite yellow velvet armchair. Many pieces are momentos from different transformative periods in my life. I also have an ottoman I found on the side of the road I reupholstered both with the help of a family friend (Thank you, Eileen!). Other items have been discovered locally here in Richmond thrift stores, which I’ve list below. The rest arrived here thanks to the magic of the internet: Wayfair, Target, and Amazon.
I wanted to share both my favorite local shops and my online purchases with you. I also, proudly, wanted to share the finished product of my main living areas. So keep scrolling to learn more about my favorite Richmond spots, see photos, and shop to upgrade your home or apartment.
My Favorite Furnture + Home Decor Stores in Richmond
68 Home: I’ve made a few visits here over the years and chatted with the owner Mariya. Located in the Arts District, this retro-inspired shop carries all things vintage and boho. I’ve got a wicker side table, wicker potholder, and a few more items from the store. I’m obsessed with stalking Instagram stories for new items additions.
Class & Trash: This is the best spot to find big, bulky decor items. Think big metal signs and large cow skin rugs. I scored the metal “Ya’ll” sign, a giant painting in my office, and more wall decor. You can also discover couches, rugs, tables, record players, dressers and more. They have locations throughout the city and regularly post finds on Instagram.
Goodwill: It ain’t no secret that I’m a Goodwill fan. From clothes to home decor, Goodwill stores have always been a therapeutic haven for me. I especially have luck like finding the larger items at Goodwill–chairs and tables. I’ve circulated a few in and out of my dwellings over the years. It’s also a great place to find kitchen essentials and picture frames.
Diversity Thrift: I have discovered so many apartment furniture and decor essentials here during the past decade. I have a teal chest I use for halloween costumes. Side tables, kitchen chairs, bowls, plates, and more dot my apartment. There’s always something useful or out of the ordinary to discover.
Shop Someday: Looking for house plants? The perfect serving tray? Dreamy french-inspired decor? Stop in to this Broad Street shop. I own a pencil cactus, a snake plant, and a small cactus succulent from Someday. Shop for minimal high quality decor, kitchen supplies, furniture and other gift items.
Circle Thrift: This is both a thrift store and an art space. Circle also carries original art from various creators. You have to dig around for the stuff you’re looking for. That’s the fun part. I found what I was looking for recently: a white ceramic bot for my pencil cactus (had to get rid of the ladle and top!) and a few small original figure drawings to fill in gaps around the apartment.
Boho To Go:You have to stay on top of the Boho To Go Instagram or head in to shop regulalry to find what you really need. This place curates a collection of secondhand retro furniture, art, decor, and collectibles to add a pop of color or character to any corner.
Jolene: New to my neighborhood is this modern home decor spot. Find quirky and minimal essentials and extras here from bread-shaped lights to chic bowls and plates. Many of it is handmade by artists around the world.
RVA Antiques: Set aside some time for this Richmond terasure chest. 60+ vendors are represented here. Find new and secondhand furniture, decor, bedding, antiques, and even fashion. It’s bigger than you think, so you’re bound ot find something to love.
