I’ve been on a skincare journey since birth. I was born with what doctors call the trifecta: eczema, asthma, and allergies. By far the most challenging of the three is my sensitive skin. I’ve adjusted my diet, take allergy meds and keep cortizone on hand. There is no “cure” for the uncomfortable purgatory my skin is perpetually in. Yesterday the New York Times reported a drug will be available next spring.
Wether that comes through or not, I still have to take care of my skin with caution. I even want to be able to pamper myself like a Rreal girl!
Luckily there are some amazing brands using natural products that pack a lot of power and moisture for gals with sensitive skin. Here are a handful of my favorites:
For those of you familiar with the brand, you shouldn’t be surprised that Lush is my jam. While I’ve used most of their moisturizing bath bombs, I have ventured into more of their skincare products lately. On my really dry weeks, this course exfoliating face mask gets rid of my flaky skin. It smells and even tastes good. I’ve just started using this facial moisturizer, which comes in a bar soap like mold.
This local maker has my heart. I’ve watched the Hanover based brand grow over the past few years and used almost all of their products. Mac’s Smack has made a commitment to create minimalist highly concentrated formulas without fillers, synthetics or artificial ingredients. I especially love the orange and vanilla body butter, which makes me smell like a soft, sweet creamsicle.
Yet another Richmond area brand that gives back. I wrote about Maven Made in Richmond Magazine. The entrepreneurial duo behind the brand is just as sweet as they are savvy about skincare. I have been using the facial serum for ages it seems like. It’s great for my dry skin, just doesn’t weigh it down so I’m at risk of clogged pores. I also want to try the energy serum. The mavens host custom serum making events, so check out the calendar!
Emu oil? A promise of “NoLo” (no lotion) days? A selection of body and facial scrubs in dozens of flavors? I was interested. Simple Sugars rose to fame on Shark Tank. I tried a few flavors and loved them all. The Eucalyptus body scrub will be a great addition to your fall beauty routine. The herb is known to keep your nose clear and your senses sharp.
Do you have sensitive skin? What are your favorite products or tricks?
