Five Ways to Rock a Fur Vest

It is definitely the time of year to bring out your faux fur from hibernation. Maybe you even have real fur to shake out for the season. However you fur,  it’s officially chilly outside and you can start incorporating either into your cool weather wardrobe (and also start wearing tights).

We’ll focus on the [faux] fur vest today. There are so many ways to wear this actually very practical item. I have already been wearing mine, as you’ll see, and I am amazed at how warm it keeps me while I’m outdoors and cool enough when I’m inside. I feel so decadent when I wear it.

In my opinion nothing can be too casual with a fur vest. But, because Thanksgiving is around the corner, I will start with the most causal combo you can wear with a fur vest.

Miss Shasta here is wearing her fur vest with plaid. Everything, including the vest, is from Target, and it looks like it’s still available. (Some tricks to shopping at Target) I could hardly pick my favorite photo to feature. Her vest actually has a sweater back to it. I imagine it’s very comfortable and keeps casual looks fresh. She’s my resident beauty blogger.

Then, we have me. I wore this on a fun shopping spree date with my friend. I can’t tell you how many compliments I received that day about this vest.I got my faux fur vest last fall at my favorite local consignment shop Clementine. Clementine posts new items on its Facebook page, which is where I saw this vest and picked it up that day. Someone was right behind me to buy it! It is by BB Dakota.

I pared it with red pants and a green shirt to make it pop a little bit. It made going inside and outside often very comfortable.  My hair is closer to the color of my vest than I’d like, so I lifted it away from it into a top knot. It kept my neck cool when I was feeling overheated, too.

Next, we have one of my new favorite bloggers, Katie Rose of Wild Rosesuds. I spotted a picture of her wearing a vest OVER her leather jacket. Now, there’s an idea to both amp up the look of your vest and make it work for you on colder days. I recently pinned another example of this take on a fur vest. Did I mention she MADE her vest?

Above is Olav Arthur Mburu from The Lifestyle Spread personal style blog. He is wearing his vest with crisp white pants, a tucked-in button down shirt, and very fabulous toppers: shades and hat. He got his vest in Nairobi Kenya at a store that no longer exists. Sigh. All the best pieces have this kind of story.

Let’s wrap this party up with me again! I took a tank top maxi dress and put a long-sleeved shirt over it to make it fall friendly. The dress is a little long for me and it wasn’t cold enough to wear sandals on this day, so I slipped on my favorite short black booties. I topped it with my most versatile Stella & Dot necklace and earrings. I finally have hair long enough for a decent ponytail, so I went that route to make things fun, but effortless. If I wanted to get even more dressy, I would have thrown on a stack of gold bracelets or a statement bangle. That seemed to be counterproductive to the eating I was about to do at a Friendsgiving.
