Five Ways to Make any Outfit Complete: From Earrings to Confidence
Hello, blogland. I haven’t forgetten about you, my sweet, sweet website. I’ve been focusing on my Instagram content, working on a new website for my marketing business, working on fun stuff for clients, and trying to get my new apartment together. Amidst this madness, you know I’m also preparing to be two weddings and attending another this fall. From earrings to booties, my new closet is a bit of a mess. I’m still finding ways to stay polished, possibly more than ever. I’m finding some trends in my tactics. I’m bringing those tips to clients when I style on set. I figured I shouldn’t keep them from you!
Start with the Statement
A statement can be anything: unique earrings, a low-cut blouse, a bold blazer. It doesn’t have to be loud and colorful, either. Your statement item is just the part of the outfit that you’re most excited about. It’s the piece that makes it “different.” If you’re doing it right, it’s something you aren’t afraid to wear again and again because it’s so YOU. It’s a piece that makes the outfit the perfect outfit for the occasion. For example, with this black shorts look, the shorts were the statement. I wore the cotton shorts over the weekend to go out with a body suit. They’re simple, but different. I transformed them here for a weekday happy hour with a simple blazer and camisole and booties. I built my outfit around the unexpected statement piece.
Essential Accessories
Shoes, jewelry, sunglasses–these are items in my closet that are always strong, neutral, and easy-to-wear. Unless your accessory is your statement, they should be no-brainers to layer on with any look. They also help make every outfit YOURS because you have a signature accessory style, though your outfits may change.
For me, I can’t have enough simple gold jewelry. I’m known for that. I wear these Maslo flat hoops frequently. This pendant necklace from JulzJunkie is a regular, too. Recently, I signed up to receive a Curate Box from AUrate. Through the online jewelry service, I took a quiz. Based on my style and preference, I was sent five high quality pieces–three earrings and two necklaces. Each one was a great selection for me. l mixed them in and out every day I had the box, which was about a week. I decided to keep the mini charm necklace to layer underneath my other necklaces every day.
Cuff Your Sleeves and Hems
I bring this tip to all of my styling appointments. Adding a cuff to your blazer sleeve or to your denim hem helps elongate your legs and arms. Often elongate also means “slim.” In addition, if you have nice bracelet, watch, or rings on your hands, you should show show those off. Same goes for you shoes. Let your accessories shine when you can. Be deliberations, but effortless about your cuff, too.
Take something off
This is a tricky one for a lot of women. We get attached to our knick knacks. There is no better way to look UNpolished than to be doing too much. It distracts from what you are doing well if there is too much look at. Make sure your statement piece is taking center stage. Draw eyes to your favorite features instead of away.
Take this final step when you add your coat and purse, which you need no matter what. Had to your full-length mirror. Take a step back. Now, what makes your outfit look “cluttered”? What competes for attention that shouldn’t? I personally do this just about every day and always find something that’s a little too much. When I take it off, I feel more polished instantly.
Confidence
Getting dressed every day should be fun. It should give you a sense of power. Even if you decide you don’t like your look by the time you make it to meeting No. 1, wear it with confidence. Fake it until you make it home. By the time the day ends, you may actually love your outfit. You know what, in 24 hours, you get a redo for a whole new outfit. Wake up and step into a better version of you!
